William Mosher

William R. “Bill” Mosher, a lifelong resident of Middletown, died Friday, November 17, 2023 at home after a long illness. He was 76.

Born in Middletown January 12, 1947 to William J. and Dorothy R. Peck Mosher, he was married to Patricia Delaney Mosher for 40 years.

Bill was a retired Professional Firefighter and Fire Inspector with the Middletown Fire Department, retiring in 1992 after 20 years of service. He was also retired from Mid-City Transit Corp. Bill was a trumpet player from the age of 10, and played recently in several bands including the Swing Shift Orchestra, Hudson Valley Swing Band, Pine Bush Community Band and was a former member of the SUNY Orange Symphonic Band.

He served in the U.S. Army, assigned to the 283rd Army Band in Fort Benning, GA during the Vietnam War.

He was not only a member of St. John’s Lutheran Church, but the last surviving member of the church’s Founding Families. Bill was a retired member of the Middletown Professional Fire Fighters Association I.A.F.F. Local 1027, a 50 Plus year member of the Ontario Hose Company #5, a 21-year Honorary member of the Howells Fire Company, a 20 Plus year member and past President of the Catskill Fire-Cats, a member of the BPO Elks Lodge #1097 and the Historical Society of Middletown & Wallkill Precinct.

Bill is survived by his wife Patricia at home, daughter Gretchen (John) Bily, of Monroe and grandson Alex Thomas of Utah. He is further survived by his step-son Andy King of Middletown, step-daughter Melanie (Brian) Kolacy of Warwick and two step-grandsons Kevin and Tyler. He is also survived by his sister Beverly Sausville of Oklahoma, his brother Ray (Terry) Mosher of Farmington, NM and numerous nieces and nephews.

He was predeceased by his son William S. Mosher.

The family would like to thank United Hospice; especially Emma, Grace and Suzanne for their kindness and help in the past weeks.

Visitation will be held on Tuesday, November 21, 2023, from 4:00 to 7:00 pm at Flynn Funeral & Cremation Memorial Centers, 139 Stage Road, Monroe, New York.

Services will be on Wednesday, November 22, 2023, 11:00 am - 12:00 pm at St. John's Lutheran Church, 391 Mount Hope Road, Middletown, New York 10940.

Burial with Military Honors will follow at Orange County Veterans Cemetery, 111 Craigville Road, Goshen, New York 10924.

Brendan and Thomas Flynn and Flynn Funeral & Cremation Memorial Center staff are assisting the family during this difficult time.
