Tom Weigel

Tom Weigel of Chester, New York passed away on Oct 18, 2017, at his residence in Chester, NY under the care of his loving and devoted sister Monica. Tom was born in 1948 to Thomas and Theresa (Nee: Sheehan) Weigel. Tom Weigel, artist, poet, and playwright lived on NY's lower east side during the 1970s and 80s and is recognized as a member of the 3rd generation of New York School Poets. He was an active participant at the Poetry Project at St. Mark's Church in the 1970's and 1980's. His numerous reading venues have included the Ear Inn (NYC), The Museum of Modern Art in New York, The Belgrade Museum of Art in the former Yugoslavia and on WBAI radio in New York. He edited Tangerine Magazine from 1981-1986. He was the publisher of Andrea Doria Books which included Jackie Disler, Helena Hughes, Angela Dryden, Lenny Goldstein & Monica (Weigel) Antonie. His chapbooks have been published by Telephone Books; Accent Editions; Fell Swoop; Unarmed and One Time Press. His work appears in several anthologies and poetry magazines including the Paris Review. In 2003 he founded a poetry reading series in New London, CT and hosted it for 8 years. In 2005 he wroteThe Jackie Curtis Story. He most recently was editor and publisher of Burp Magazine. Visitation will be held on Monday, October 23, 2017, during the hours of 10:00 AM to 12 noon at Flynn Funeral Home, located at 3 Hudson Street, Chester, New York 10918. A Service will be held on Monday, October 23, 2017, at 12:30 PM at the Chester Presbyterian Church located at 94-96 Main Street, Chester, NY 10918. Burial will follow at the Chester Community Cemetery, Chester, NY. Funeral arrangements have been entrusted to Thomas F.
