Dr. Thomas J. Murray, PhD., passed away at this residence in the Bronx, on September 17, 2013 at the age of 75. He was born in New York City on November 15, 1937 to Thomas J. and Ellen (Mahony) Murray. Tom graduated from Manhattan College in 1959 and upon graduation was commissioned as a Second Lieutenant in the United States Air Force. While in service and during civilian life, he obtained masters degrees in finance and computer science and a doctorate in computer science. His chosen career was education and he taught in several colleges/ universities including California State University (Sacramento), The University of Missouri, Syracuse University, South Carolina University (Florence) and Manhattan College. He also taught in Turkey. He authored a book entitled "Computer Based Information Systems". Tom is survived by his sisters Kathleen M. Corcoran and her husband Jim of Chester, NY; Eileen Davidson and her husband Don of Walden, NY; and Patricia Heffernan and her husband John of Fairfield, CT. Survivors also include fifteen nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his parents and a nephew, Thomas Heffernan. There will be no visitation. A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated at 11:00 A.M. on Saturday, September 28, 2013 at The Church of St. John the Evangelist, 71 Murray Avenue, Goshen, New York 10924. His cremated remains will be interred at a future date. Please omit flowers; instead memorial donations can be made in Thomas' name to a charity of your choice.
