Sheri "Red" LaFurge, 43 a long time resident of Highland Falls passed away peacefully at home, on December 11th, 2017, knowing she had the love and comfort of her beloved daughter her family and friends. She was born in Cold Spring NY on October 21st, 1974 and was the youngest of three children born to Levia LaFurge and the late Nelson C LaFurge Sr. About three years ago Sheri was diagnosed with a rare form of cancer. After a year of going from doctor to doctor and test after test, they finally diagnosed the type of cancer. She had Cholangiocarcinoma (cancer of the bile ducts) which has no known cure. They gave her a fifty percent chance to live out the year. Her will to survive, strength and courage proved them wrong. She still had a life to live and things to do. She was determined to see her daughter graduate high school, and she did. She was told two more times she would have three to six months to live. And two more times she proved them wrong! She still had a lot of living to do. By the fourth time she was told, she had lived as much life as she could and had done all that she could do. She knew her journey was coming to the end and she lived happily and loved so much and was ever so grateful for the journey of her life and for all who shared it with her. Sheri was a fearless loving woman whose short time in this world inspired so many. Her love of life and compassion and understanding of people made everyone who met her, love her. Sheri was a volunteer Firefighter for the Highland Falls Fire Department. A challenge she took on in her early thirties and was so honored and proud to be a firefighter, and so proud to give back to the community of Highland Falls. She also took great pride in being an ordained minister and the passion she had when she was asked to unite friends in Holy Matrimony was like no other. She was a huge Steelers fan, and loved her three cats; also loved the outdoors, sitting outside watching the hummingbirds and squirrels come to the feeders she put out always brought a smile to her face. She was so many things to so many people. She was a daughter to her mother, whom she looked up to. She was a wonderful "little" sister to her siblings, who all shared so many memories with her. She was a loving aunt and an amazing friend to so many. But most of all Sheri was a PROUD and loving mother, to her daughter, Chelsea. Sheri is survived by her loving daughter, her princess, Chelsea O. LaFurge of Highland Falls; and her caring and loving mother, Levia Sather LaFurge of Highland Falls. She is also survived by her sister, Tammy LaFurge of Scotchtown, NY; her brother, Nelson C. LaFurge Jr. "Jay" of Highland Falls, NY; her beloved niece, Mackenzie Suter of New York City and nephew, Jayson LaFurge of Cherryville, NC. Many cousins, aunts and uncles and more friends that could be listed also survive. She is also predeceased by her loving father Nelson C. LaFurge Sr. While we will mourn her passing, we will continue to celebrate her life, and cherish the way she has touched each and every one she came in contact with. I know she would want us all to live, laugh and love as we all continue on with our journeys in life. A celebration of life will take place from 4 to 8 p.m. on January 20th, 2018 at the Highland Falls Fire department. Funeral & Cremation arrangements have been entrusted to Thomas F.
