Rose Malik, 86, of Middletown, NY, was called home to be with God, peacefully, and surrounded by her loving family on December 4th, 2022. Rose was born Rose Marie Volpe, on September 15th, 1936 in Burgettston, PA to Mary Rose Zambarda and Louis Volpe. She grew up in Cokeburg, Pennsylvania, where she attended high school and met the love of her life, Adam John Mailk. They were married at St. Joseph Roman Catholic Church in Cokeburg in 1960.
During Adams service in the Navy, they were world travelers, living in Texas, California, Greece, the West Indies, Maryland, Pennsylvania, and ultimately settled in New York. During that time she was a stay at home mother and the head of the house. She raised three energetic and mischievous boys. An amazing cook and baker, she incorporated techniques and flavors from their travels and friends throughout the years. She created the concept of "pierogi lasagna", an often requested family favorite. The oven was always warm at Roses, the counters full of breads and pastries, and you could expect fresh homegrown vegetables from the garden. Stomachs were never empty in her presence, and you were always sent home with carefully packaged leftovers, as well as bags of groceries from her freezer. Not only did she single-handedly raise her sons, she also helped to raise multiple subsequent generations, grand and great-grandchildren. Her home was always open to family, and she delighted in her grandchildren; shelves overflowed with pictures of her family. She continued to mother even those who lived far away, sending care packages with articles cut from health and home magazines, and things she'd picked up at garage sales and stores. Although she says she never learned to swim, she nonetheless taught her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren to swim. Once they became parents, she mentored her grandchildren on maintenance of home and household and parenting. Her "house rules" stood the test of time, posted on the refrigerator for decades, then passed down to her grandchildren. She was an avid animal lover, and even bred puppies for a period of time. In her later years she enjoyed spoiling her grand-puppies as she did her grand and great-grandchildren.She loved Hallmark movies and followed several long-running soap operas; she loved Reader's Digest. She never forgot a date, and sent cards for every major event in everyones lives. She loved the color pink, and roses, which adorned her home, and had a large collection of Precious Moments figurines. She wore her hair carefully curled and she could always be seen wearing her signature pink lipstick. A philanthropist, she not only supported her family and extended family, but also donated money to every organization that she happened upon - St. Judes Hospital was an especially dear charity of hers. She was generous of spirit, of her time, and of her love, and truly embodied Christ, serving others the entirety of her life. She was a beautiful person inside and out.
Rose was preceded in death by her parents, Mary and Louis, brother Louis, her loving husband, Adam, of 56 years, and her son Kurt. Left to cherish her memory are her sons Keith (Wendy) and Kenneth (Christine) Malik, seven grandchildren, Tabitha Schrufer-Poland (Eric), Matthew Malik, Brandon Malik, Brianna Moore (Alex), Erika Malik (Curtis Brown), Stephanie Malik, and Casey Malik (James Brush), and seven great-grandchildren, Saige Fairweather, Bentley Moore, George Poland, Logan Moore, Kinsley Moore, Harrison Poland, and Parker Moore, as well as many extended family members and friends.
A private celebration of life and distribution of Rose's and Adam's joined cremated remains are planned by her family.
