Ragnhild Johansen

Ragnhild Johansen passed away on December 8, 2013 at the Valley View Nursing Home. She was 99 years of age. The daughter of the late Johan and Ragnhild Glad Hansen, she was born in the charming village of Sigerfjord in Norway, on June 12, 1914. She met her future husband, Henning Johansen, on an ocean voyage on her way to America, and married him on October 2, 1949, in her new hometown of Jamestown, New York. Ragnhild then moved to Brooklyn, New York, where she was an active member of the Salvation Army. She eventually returned to Jamestown, New York and then moved to Harriman, New York to be near her son and daughter-in-law. Ragnhild was an excellent homemaker and enjoyed sewing, crochet, needlepoint, knitting, painting and quilting. She loved crafts of all kinds. Ragnhild was a member of Saint Paul's Lutheran Church of Monroe, New York. She is survived by her son, John Johansen and his wife Elaine, beloved sister Ragna Hjemdahl Monsen, beloved sister-in-law Jeannette Hansen, and many loving nieces and nephews, and grand nieces and nephews. Ragnhild was predeceased by her husband Henning Johansen, brothers Kris Hansen, Sigurd Hansen, Petter Hansen, Hermod Hansen, and her sisters Christine Hammargren and Hedvig Haglund. A Private viewing and prayer service will be held on December 11, 2013 at 1:00 PM at Flynn Funeral & Cremation Memorial Centers, Inc., 139 Stage Road, Monroe, NY 10950. Ragnhild will be memoralized and interred with her husband Henning, at a later date in Jamestown, New York. Cremation will be at Oxford Hills Crematory, Inc., Chester, New York.
