Philip H. Schnabel, of Chester, NY, passed away peacefully at home on January 23rd following a lengthy illness.
He was born in 1934 in New York City. After graduating high school and a brief stint at City College, he joined the army as an MP and discovered his passion for law enforcement and the law.
He met his wife of 66 years, Ruth, while stationed in Germany.
After his military service he continued his career in law enforcement, first as a NY State Trooper, then with the NYPD, where he retired as a lieutenant. He began a new career serving as a Police Chief, working in Missouri, West Virginia, Pennsylvania, and Connecticut. During his law enforcement career, he also pursued higher education, earning a BA and MA in Criminal Justice and his Juris Doctor.
Following the completion of his law degree, he opened Schnabel Law Offices in Chester, NY, where he practiced until 2021. In addition to his many academic and career achievements, Philip was well known for his avid commitment to physical fitness.
He is survived by his wife Ruth; sister Carol; daughters Barbara, Lori, and Heidi; as well as his 8 grandchildren and 2 great-grandchildren.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the American Heart Association.
Celebration of Life to be held sometime this spring.
Cremation occurred at Oxford Hills Crematory, Inc., under the care and supervision of Thomas & Brendan Flynn.Please feel free to leave a condolence for the family to view.
