Patricia Henchar

March 17, 1933 — March 8, 2021

PATRICIA A. HENCHAR, age 87, a longtime resident of Highland Mills, NY (formerly of the Bronx and Westchester) passed away on March 8, 2021 surrounded by her family, enveloped in their love. Patricia was born on March 17, 1933 to the late Michael and Josephine (Racaniello) Henchar. A 1951 graduate of Christopher Columbus High School in the Bronx, she went on to earn a business degree from State Tech College in Brooklyn. Patricia is survived by her loving nieces and nephew, Susan Eddy, Laura Hagerty, James D'Ambrosio (Janet Fortunato), Carol Smith (Dan Smith), Marion Andolina (Gary Andolina) and Nicole Egloff (James Egloff). She is also survived by many cherished great-nieces and nephews, as well as great-great-nieces and nephews. In addition to her parents, Patricia was predeceased by her beloved sisters, Marion J. D'Ambrosio and Roberta Henchar and her brother-in-law John P. D'Ambrosio. Pat, as she was known, had a successful career as a Retail Buyer for Alexander's department stores in Rego Park and the Bronx. She advanced to management status through the years and her position afforded her the opportunity to travel extensively in Europe, purchasing fine leather goods for Alexander's and then for several other retail chains. She was passionate about seeing the world and savored all that she experienced abroad, always retelling stories of her adventures. Italy and Austria were the places she embraced most. In the early 1980s, Pat's lifelong dream of owning her own retail boutique was realized when she opened Symmetry in Hartsdale, NY. Later in life Pat enjoyed visiting Hawaii, Arizona and Florida. The Jersey Shore was a favorite destination for her in summer, and she would often take her nieces and nephew on fun-filled trips to Wildwood Beach and Boardwalk. Depending on the season, the Berkshires in Massachusetts had her often skiing or attending concerts at Tanglewood. Pat loved all things cultural. Her family and friends were Pat's greatest joys and she dedicated much of her life to selflessly tending to their care and needs. Visiting relatives close to home or in another state, and cooking big meals and bringing everyone together in her home all brought her immense joy. She will be greatly missed by all who so dearly loved her. Our angel here on earth, Pat will continue to watch over us as our angel in heaven. Due to the Covid pandemic, there will be no calling hours. A Mass of the Resurrection and a Celebration of Life will be held later this year at a date yet to be determined by the family. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorial contributions be made in Pat's memory to the Joe Raso Hospice Residence, 415 Buena Vista Rd, New City, NY 10956 at https://unitedhospiceinc.org/giving/joe-raso-hospice-residence-donation or St. Patrick's Roman Catholic Church (Church of St. Patrick), 26 Hunter St, Highland Mills, NY 10930.
