Morena Calore

Morena Calore, beloved wife and mother, of Washingtonville, New York (formerly of Closter, New Jersey), passed away peacefully at her residence on January 9, 2021. She was 89 years old. The daughter of the late Francesco Giorgetti and Gina Virgili, she was born in Livorno, Italy on September 20, 1931. She was preceded by her sister, Licia Bianchetti and her husband, Renzo Calore, the love of her life! Renzo and Morena were married in 1952 in Livorno, Italy and in 1968 immigrated to the United States with their three children, Bianca Calore-Kiernan of Washingtonville- NY, Claudio Calore of Bergenfield-NJ, and Richard Calore of Washingtonville- NY. She was blessed with 9 grandchildren and 1 great-grandchild. Morena was a housewife first but also worked full time. Family always came first. She never learned to drive till she was 60 years old, after her husband of 41 years passed away. She was gentle and strong at the same time, and possessed a quiet but loving presence that no one could miss every time she entered a room. She didn't like anyone to fuss over her and was happy with simple things. Morena witnessed the horrors of World War 2 as a child and shared her memories with us on many occasions. She loved Italy but was proud to become a US citizen in 1976. Morena leaves a legacy of love and caring for her family as only an Italian Mamma can. She loved to cook large Italian family dinner on Sundays. Her famous pasta with meat sauce and or lasagna became her children and grandchildren's favorite! Morena loved chocolate, a good cup of coffee and a donut every afternoon, and never missed a show of Dancing with the Stars. She will be missed by all who knew her but especially her family!
