“MILLIE”
MILDRED URSO, A 53 YEAR RESIDENT OF CHESTER, DIED PEACEFULLY AT HER HOME
ON FEBRUARY 29, 2024. BORN AND RAISED IN BROOKLYN, SHE WORKED FOR
WESTERN ELECTRIC TELEPHONE IN HER YOUNGER YEARS AND WAS VERY PROUD
OF THE FACT THAT SHE SAVED UP ENOUGH MONEY TO TAKE A TRIP TO EUROPE ON
HER OWN AND TO BUY A 1964 1/2 MUSTANG THAT SHE FELL IN LOVE WITH WHEN SHE
SAW IT AT THE WORLD’S FAIR.
MILLIE MARRIED FRANCESCO (FRANK) URSO IN 1965 AND TOGETHER, THEY RAISED
THREE CHILDREN, HAD SEVEN GRANDCHILDREN AND TWO GREAT-
GRANDCHILDREN.
A WOMAN OF GREAT STRENGTH WITH AN UNBELIEVABLE WORK ETHIC, MILLIE
WORKED NIGHTS AS A NURSE’S AID AT THE ORANGE COUNTY INFIRMARY (NOW
KNOWN AS VALLEY VIEW) WHILE RAISING THREE CHILDREN, ATTENDING NURSING
SCHOOL AND CARING FOR HER MOTHER WHO SUFFERED FROM ALZHEIMER’S.
MILLIE LOVED ROSES AND PEARLS AND LOOKED FORWARD TO MAKING A BIG DEAL
ABOUT EVERYONE’S BIRTHDAYS. SHE WAS AN AVID READER OF BOOKS AND A
LOYAL FAN OF THE NEW YORK METS. IN HER GOLDEN YEARS, SHE ENJOYED
PLAYING BINGO EVERY WEDNESDAY AND DOING HER WORD FIND PUZZLE IN HER
DAILY NEWSPAPER. SHE WAS A PARISHIONER OF ST. COLUMBA CHURCH AND A 23
YEAR MEMBER OF THE CHESTER GOLDEN AGE SENIOR CLUB.
TO HONOR MILLIE’S MEMORY AND CELEBRATE HER LIFE, PLEASE DEMONSTRATE AN
ACT OF KINDNESS TOWARDS AN ELDERLY MEMBER OF YOUR FAMILY OR
COMMUNITY.
