Mary Evelyn Otterstedt Chester, NY Mary Evelyn Otterstedt, a retired homemaker and lifelong resident of the Chester, N.Y. died Saturday, February 8, 2014 at Elant of Goshen. Evelyn was 95 years of age. The daughter of the late William and Margaret C. Hunter, she was born in Chester in 1918. Evelyn was a lifelong member of St. Columba R.C. Church, where she was active in the St. Columba Ladies Auxiliary. She was also a member of Chester American Legion Ladies Auxiliary, since 1947 and served as their Treasurer, for more than 30 years. She enjoyed playing golf, and was an avid gardener. Evelyn is survived by her loving husband of 74 years Edward Otterstedt, at home and their children, Sr. Martha Otterstedt, a Presentation Sister from New Windsor, and son James Otterstedt and his life partner Alison Schmitz of Chester, New York, along with numerous nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her sister Margaret Tarantino, and her husband Nicholas, Brother's Robert Hunter, Joseph Hunter and his wife Emma. The Otterstedt family wishes to express a special thank you to the Nurses and staff of Elant, for their compassion and extraordinary care given to Evelyn during her stay with them. Visitation will be held on Tuesday, February 11, 2014 during the hours of 4:00 to 7:00 PM at Flynn Funeral & Cremation Memorial Centers, Inc., located at 3 Hudson Street, Chester, NY 10918. A Funeral Mass will be offered on Wednesday, February 12, 2014 at 10:00 AM at St. Columba R.C. Church, located at 29 High Street, Chester, New York 10918. Fr. John Bonnici will celebrate the Funeral Mass. Interment will follow in the family plot at St. Columba R.C. Church Cemetery, located on Route 94, Chester, New York immediately following the Funeral Mass.
