Margaret M. Grumbach, a 48-year resident of Chester, New York, died at her home on November 25, 2017. She was 81 years of age. The daughter of the late Thomas and Sarah J. Phillips, Margaret was born in Manhattan, in the year of 1936. Margaret was the widow of George E. Grumbach, Sr. Margaret was a devoted wife and dedicated mother, who served her Chester Community with 18 years of dedicated service (1975-1993) to the Town of Chester, serving as bookkeeper, Town Clerk, Councilwoman, Police Commissioner and as the first woman to hold the office of Town Supervisor. She worked for the FBI and is a member of the Society of Former Women of the Federal Bureau of Investigation. She was a former member of the Orange County Association of Supervisors and City Mayors. A former member of the New York State Finance Officer's Association. Past member of the American Institutes of Professional Bookkeepers. Further, she was a past member of the Chester Town Bicentennial Commission, and committee member and loyal supporter of the New York Republican State Committee. Former member and past President of the St. Columba Mother's Guild. Past Member of the St. Columba Parish Council and Vice President of the Ladies Auxiliary. A former member of the Chester's Brownie Tree Committee, and Girl Scouts. Member of the Chester Golden Age Club. Formerly a member of the Holy Family Parish, Bronx, New York and Graduate of the Aquinas High School, and attended Hunter College in Manhattan. Margaret was an active member of St. Columba R.C. Church in Chester, NY. She is survived by her daughter Margaret Anne (Peggy) Ziegler, and her husband Charles of Sparta, NJ. Her granddaughter Sarah Ziegler and her fiance Marc Lajeunesse of Virginia Beach, Virginia, her grandson Charles Ziegler of San Jose, CA. She is also survived by her brother Michael Phillips of Chester, NY, her sister in law, Ann Phillips of Vero Beach, Florida, as well as several loving nieces, nephews, and cousins. Margaret was predeceased by her parents, her son George E. Grumbach, her husband George E. Grumbach, Sr., and her brother Thomas Phillips. Visitation will be held on Tuesday, November 28, 2017, during the hours of 2 to 4 & 7 to 9 PM at Flynn Funeral & Cremation Memorial Centers, Inc., located at 139 Stage Road, Monroe, New York 10950. A Funeral Mass will be held on Wednesday, November 29, 2017, at 10:00 AM at St. Columba R.C. Church, located at 27 High Street, Chester, New York 10918. Burial will follow in the family plot located in St. Columba R.C. Church Parish Cemetery, Chester, New York. Memorial contributions in Margaret's name to the St. Jude Children's Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105-9959 would be greatly appreciated by the family.
