Margaret Fowler Johnson
Our cherished and beloved wife, mother, and Nanna earned her final rest and reward on November 28, 2022.
Margaret Burson Fowler Johnson was born in Warwick, N.Y., on September 25, 1930, to Gilbert and Harriet Holmes Fowler. She had two sisters, Anne Hempler (deceased) and Mary Johnson (Marland) of Gillett, Pennsylvania.
She met her husband, Charles Frederick Johnson Jr. (Sandy), at Chester High School when her family moved from Philmont, NY.
A stellar student, she was valedictorian of her senior class. Maggie and Sandy married in October of 1950, settled at the family's dairy farm in Chester, and proceeded to have seven children in thirteen years!
Mom was a town girl, but she put her hand to learning the trade of a farmer's wife, setting her hands to all the labor necessary. Gardening, canning, and baking bread every week were just some of the tasks she mastered.
Maggie was an integral part of the outreach and ministry of the First Presbyterian Church of Chester, where she was the longest-tenured member until her death. She loved working with the children and being part of the music ministry at the church. She loved God and believed fully in the finished work of Jesus Christ, her Lord, and Saviour.
Maggie's large family will miss her very much. She is survived by her husband of 72 years, Charles F. (Sandy), and her seven children: David (Dianne) of Alden, Iowa, Anne (Jon) Somerville of Chester; Amy Pallassino of Monroe, North Carolina; Gary (Deborah) of Chester; Kathi (Bob) Nywening of Chester; Gail (Joseph) DelErario of Chester and Peter of Chester. She was blessed with thirteen grandchildren and thirteen great-grandchildren!
Services will be held on December 7, 2022, at 11:00 AM at the First Presbyterian Church of Chester, 94-96 Main Street, Chester, NY.
Burial will follow at the Chester Cemetery, 1 Hudson Street, Chester, NY 10918. Immediately following the burial, a luncheon will be held in Maggie's Memory at the Fellowship Hall of the First Presbyterian Church of Chester.
