Leslie E. (LES) Greenwood, Jr., of Chester, NY, retired from Rowley Lumber in Middletown, NY, a lifelong resident of the area, died January 31, 2023, at 1:45 PM he was 88 years of age.
The son of the late Leslie E. and Shirley Greenwood, Sr., he was born on May 1934 in Chester, NY.
He was a Veteran of the Korean War, a member of the Walton Engine and Hose Company of the Chester Fire Department, a Captain of the Chester Fire Police, a Captain of The Auxiliary Police in the Village of Chester, and an Honorary Member of the Seward Seniors in Florida, NY.
He was a loving husband, father, grandfather, and uncle. He was a dedicated family man, faithful to serving his nation and community.
He especially loved his two grandchildren, Carter and Reagan, who called him "Grandpa Fooey."
He loved the fire service, where he was affectionately called "Pops" he loved working on his electric train sets in the basement and participated in the senior club. His family, friends, and the Orange County Fire Service will miss him and always have him in their hearts.
His wife, Givanna, predeceased him.
Survivors include his son Leslie J. Greenwood and daughter-in-law Marissa S. Greenwood, formerly from Middletown, NY, and currently residing in Vero Beach, FL, as well as his daughter Catherine Mary Tuffa and son-in-law Thomas Truffa formerly from Monroe, NY and currently residing in Hutchinson Island, FL.
His grandchildren include Carter Greenwood and Reagan Greenwood, of Vero Beach, Florida, along with several nieces, nephews, and very special caretakers, Erle and Sheree VanDeBogart.
A viewing will be held on February 24, 2023, between the hours of 6;00 to 8:00 PM at Flynn Funeral & Cremation Memorial Centers, 3 Hudson Street, Chester, NY 10918.
A small prayer service will be held at the Funeral Home on February 25, 2023, at 10:00 AM, followed by Firematic Services and burial with Military Honors at St. Columba R.C. Cemetery.
The Flynn Family and Flynn Funeral & Cremation Memorial Center staff provided funeral care.
