Laurel Mcelroy

Laurel E. McElroy passed away peacefully at her home on Thursday, September 7, 2023. She was 71 years old.
Born May 4th, 1952 in Cornwall NY to Robert and Jean Gobrecht, Laurel called the picturesque Hamlet of Mountainville her home for over sixty years.
Laurel worked for seventeen years as Banquet Manager for Bantas Steak and Stein, bringing people together to celebrate their happiest memories with family and friends. Later in life, she would be a part of the Hannaford Supermarket team in Vails Gate. Laurel was kind, compassionate and drew her greatest satisfaction in life from helping others. Whether it was family, friends, coworkers, or customers of the restaurant and supermarket, she was always there to help in any way she could. Her kind and giving nature was complimented by her strong independent spirit and sense of adventure. During her life, she enjoyed many hobbies like horseback trail riding on Schunnemunk Mountain, competitive speed skating, skiing, tennis, and spending time with friends and family on the beaches of North Carolina and Virginia.
A former member and president of the local Optimist International club she was an embodiment of its values. She will forever be missed by all who knew her.
Laurel is survived by her loving children, son Colin McElroy and his fiance Rebecca Shumake of New Windsor NY; daughter, Corey (McElroy) Mucci and her husband Paul of Marlboro NY; grandchildren Sadie and Paul Mucci and brother Larry Gobrecht. In addition to her mother and father, Laurel is predeceased by her son Sean McElroy; her loving partner Michael Rock, former spouse Kevin McElroy, sisters Barbara Ann (Gobrecht) Gundersen and Marie (Gobrecht) Cristofano
A Celebration of Life will be held Saturday, September 16th at 3:00 PM at My Place By The Airport, 911 Little Britain Rd, New Windsor, NY
In lieu of flowers, the family would ask donations in Laurels honor be made to Hospice of Orange and Sullivan
