Kevin Anthony Armstrong

August 15, 1967 — December 22, 2017

Kevin Anthony Armstrong was born to Betty Lee Armstrong and the late Myrone Powell on August 15, 1967 in Jamaica Hospital, Queens, N.Y. Growing up he resided with his grandmother Louise (Nana), Uncle Calvin, his mother Betty and brother Jonathan. He attended P.S.136, I.S.192, Andrew Jackson High School and Queens College. Kevin met his future wife Jennifer while at Andrew Jackson and was her escort for her senior prom. Kevin was a member of Grace United Methodist Church in his youth and early adulthood. It was here that Kevin began his journey with the Lord. Kevin began working with the youth at Grace which turned into a passion for him. He loved teaching and mentoring young people with life and spiritual lessons. Kevin also had a love for basketball (go Knicks) and Rap music. At the age of 16 Kevin entered the workforce with his first job at The Queensboro Public Library. In his early twenties he began working at AT&T. It was during this time that he moved into an apartment with his cousin Chucky and began "2C Productions". Kevin threw himself into making music, mostly Rap, and learned all he could about the music industry. He realized that the music business was not for him and began to cultivate his career in telecommunications. Kevin worked as a Telecommunications Analyst/Specialist for Prudential, HIP and VAC Services. On October 8, 1998 Kevin and Michelle Guity, welcomed son Matthew Avery into the world. Matthew was Kevin's pride and joy. On November 10, 2002 Kevin married his high school sweetheart Jennifer and began his life in Orange County, making their home in Mount Hope. Kevin went back to his roots and became a member of Solid Rock Church in New Windsor. He began working with the Media Ministry and began RISEN Sports Ministry as an outreach to bring people to Christ using sports and exercise as a catalyst. Kevin worked with the Youth Ministry and stepped in as Youth Leader when the church was looking for new Youth Pastors. He was also co-leader of the Crossbow Young Adult Ministry. Kevin also coached Freshman Basketball at Washingtonville High School until 2008. Kevin managed to do all this while fighting health issues. Cancer, two heart transplants, a kidney transplant, dialysis, diabetes and in the end blindness. Kevin never allowed any of these things to hold him down or define him. He continued to do what he loved. Kevin fought long and he fought hard. He wanted his life to make a difference for Christ. He wanted everybody that heard his story to know that God is still doing miracles. He lived his life for Christ and his family. Kevin went home to be with our Lord on December 22, 2017. He fought the good fight and surely heard the words "well done my good and faithful servant". Kevin leaves behind his wife Jennifer, son Matthew, step daughter Jazmine and their mother Michelle. He also leaves behind his mother Betty, step mother's Gloria and Charlotte, brothers Jonathan and Myrone and sister Kelly. Along with his sister-in-laws Andrea and Karen, nieces and nephews Conor, Briana, Stephen, Justin, Amber and Hunter and a host of church family and friends. (Jeremiah 29:11).
