Karen D. Bonomi

December 2, 1963 — June 13, 2020

Karen Bonomi (nee Dunne), 56, passed away peacefully at her home on June 13th, 2020. She leaves behind her loving family, of whom she was very proud, and countless friends who will miss her tremendous spirit, infectious laughter, and kind soul. Karen was born on December 2nd, 1963 to Margaret Maxwell and Charles Daniel Dunne in Suffern, NY. A graduate of Pearl River High School and Rockland Community College, Karen married her soulmate, Joseph Bonomi, on July 13, 1991. Together they raised Charles James (CJ) and Joseph Timothy (Joey), living the past 20 years in Washingtonville, NY. She was an amazing mother and caring wife, devoting herself to the most important part of her life - her family. Her sons, CJ and Joey, were her everything. She was a fun and lively daughter, sister, in-law, and friend who always spoke her mind, not holding back her opinion, even it if wasn't what you wanted to hear, while being encouraging and supportive. She was always there for her family and friends, even before they knew they needed her, with unconditional love and compassion. She was considered a ‘Second Mom' by so many. Karen had a soft spot for any animal in need, big or small, wild or tamed and has rescued, raised, rehabilitated and cared for far too many to name (though Franklin, the pot-bellied pig, who lived a full and comfortable life for 22 years, maybe the most memorable). She enjoyed vacationing with her family in the Caribbean, laughing at their adventures, soaking in sun, and enjoying a Dirty Banana or two or three. There are rumors the bar has not yet recovered from the banana shortage. Karen also had a successful career in the pharmaceutical industry for 35 years, providing tireless support and service, and still maintained contact with her former colleagues, many of whom considered her their ‘work mom' as well as a mentor. Life is not fair, and the unfiltered Karen would say f…… s… then pick up and carry on with enthusiasm and passion. We can only guess that God needed a beautiful, fun, and feisty angel in heaven, and we are comforted in knowing that Karen is still looking over us, just as she has done her whole life. Karen is survived by her husband, Joe, of 29 years, sons CJ and Joey of New York, her mother Margaret Dunne of New York, brother Tom (Mary) of Maine, sister Susan (Randy) of Connecticut, and mother-in-law, Joan, and sister-in-law Michelle (Kenny) of New York, sister-in-law Kathy of South Carolina, and many special nieces, nephews, and godchildren with whom she shared a loving relationship. Karen was predeceased by her father, Charles Daniel (Charlie), brother, Charles Daniel Jr (Dan), father-in-law, James, and brother-in-law, James, Jr. Visitation will be held on Friday, June 19, 2020, during the hours of 4:00 to 7:00 PM at Flynn Funeral & Cremation Memorial Centers, Inc., located at 139 Stage Road, Monroe, N.Y. 10950.
