Juanita “Jenny” Clemente

Goshen, New York

Jenny was the epitome of a loving wife, devoted mother, and selfless grandmother. She was strong, loving, caring, and the most selfless woman I have ever known.

She was born in San Juan, Puerto Rico, and came to the United States when she was 13 years old. She grew up to work in a beauty salon; after years of working there, she opened her own salon, "Jenny's House of Beauty," and loved what she did very much!!

She owned that Salon for 15 years. She loved doing hair so much that she continued to do her friend's hair at home when they purchased their first and forever home in 1970 in Goshen, New York.

They got to get that home with blood, sweat, and tears to give their children Melida and Louis a better life. They were both immensely proud of the house they built for their family. And what a better life they did give them. They shared that better life with all their friends and family. The house (our home) became the place to be with friends and family, enjoying weekends of fun and good food (there was always enough food).

The joke in our family among our cousins was that "Titi Jenny" could cut a cake so that everyone could have a piece, and there would always be leftovers for more. One of our extended family daughters, Susan, would always say Jenny made everything homemade, right down to the ice cream.

Mom was always open to trying new things, from food to riding in a Hot Air Balloon. She was not afraid or never showed us fear.

The only fear I remember her telling me was that her Father would take her from her Mother when she was young. Despite that fear, while growing up, she succeeded by simply being the best Mother and Wife anyone could ask for.

Her love for her husband, Lou, and her children, Melinda and Louis, was evident in every way she lived. She had so much love to give her whole family. Growing up, we shared so many beautiful memories with our cousins because she shared her heart and love with them and included them in most of all the fun things she did with us. The best childhood memories of my Mom and my cousins June and Stephanie were going to the Thanksgiving Parade in the early mornings. (In the middle of the night, drive downtown to the parade, standing in the cold, rain or snow, with blankets)

She pushes us through the adults to get us in front of the crowds. She makes fun of it when it rains and tells us how much she loves walking in the rain. This brings back memories of her childhood in Puerto Rico, where it would rain on one side of the street, and if you crossed the street, it would be dry.

I carried on the tradition of going to the Thanksgiving Parade by taking my daughter while she was growing up. She, in turn, passed the tradition on to my daughter, Jadyn, and me, who is now an aspiring musical theatre artist!!

My Mother was always there for every event for her children and granddaughter, from every Cub Scout meeting to a baseball game for my brother. She took me and cultivated my love for theater. She appreciated and saw the God-given talent that her granddaughter, Jadyn, has!

She was always a selfless mom! She was always giving and wanting the best for her children. She always told me she wanted me to do and see, travel, live, and experience all the things she didn't.

She wanted us to live the best lives we could. As my brother Louie and I grew and became established, we wanted to give them the best lives we could.

We traveled together when we could. We took them out to eat when we could, too!

When we could share our lives with them, we did. I do not know of too many people whose bosses and colleagues knew their parents. Working on Network News, I got them to share their 40th anniversary on TV, and they met and went to all the shows. I ever worked on, and my brother's employers always knew my parents, and all his friends always knew "The Clemente's."

My Mother and Father were the Parents that all our friends "Loved."

We are so blessed that we had them both in our lives for as long as we did. She will be missed, and they will be missed EVERDAY OF OUR LIVES until we meet again! We could not have asked for better parents or better Role Models.
