Josephine R. Szulwach was lifted up to Heaven on the wings of angels from her home in Chester on Thursday, December 5, 2013. She was 99 years old. Josephine was a homemaker but held various jobs once her children were in school. She was the St. Columba School lunch lady. She also worked in the meat dept of the A&P in Chester until it burned down. She then retired back to home to be Baci to her many grandchildren. The daughter of the late Peter and Stella Szulc she was born in Chester, NY in 1914. Josephine was a lifelong member of St. Columba R.C. Church. She was also a member of the St. Columba Ladies Auxillary. Josephine found much comfort in her faith. A family statement reads: "Mom was the matriarch of a 5 generation family which was her greatest joy. Mom was a wonderful baker and cook. Her apple pie and "Baci" tollhouse cookies were the best. She enjoyed dancing the polka with her late husband, Walt. Although dementia robbed her mind after the death of "the love of her life" she continued to enjoy spending time with her family." Josephine was the widow of Walter T. Szulwach. Josephine is predeceased by her sisters: Mary Krzynowek, Annie Wogisch and her twin Catherine Dlugolecki; her brothers: John Schultz and Joseph Schultz. She is also predeceased by her grandson, Jason Smith. Survivors include her sons: Walter Szulwach and his wife, Kathy of Middletown, NY; Jim Szulwach and his wife, Mary of Middletown, NY; Ronald Szulwach and his wife, Frances of Springtown, TX. Daughters: Elaine Szulwach of Middletown, NY; Kathleen Szulwach of Chester, NY; Cindy Smith and her husband, Gary of Chester, NY and Connie Roach of Chester, NY. She is survived by 22 grandchildren; 35 great grandchildren and 3 great great grandchildren. She is also survived by several nieces and nephews. The family would also like to thank Mary, Margie, Jennifer and Wendy for the wonderful care they provided to our mom in her home when we were unable to be there. Visitation will be Sunday, December 8, 2013 during the hours of 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 at Flynn Funeral & Cremation Memorial Centers, Inc., 3 Hudson Street, Chester, New York 10918 A Funeral Mass will be offered on Monday, December 9, 2013 at 10:00 AM in St. Columba R.C.
