Jane Anne (Brown) Rabinowitz died peacefully at home in Chester, NY, on December 17, 2018, surrounded by her family. She was 95 years old. Jane was born in Chicago, to Elmer Oliver "Guy" Brown and Helen May "Nellie" (Skillen) Brown. She spent her childhood in Los Angeles, where her father was an engineer for Bell Labs. She grew up spending time on the sound stages of early Hollywood. She attended Rosary College in River Forest, IL. In 1942 she left for New York City to work as a short wave broadcast technician, at the Office of War Information. It was there that she met her husband composer "Binny" Irving Robbin/Rabinowitz, who died in 2010 after 69 years of marriage. After the war, she and Binny worked together in the 1940's and 1950's in radio and early television, writing scripts for shows such as "Tales of Tomorrow." She was a professional photographer and journalist for twenty years, and became a Senior Public Information Specialist for the Ramapo School District. She developed a radio show called "Chalk Talk," to promote system wide events. In later years, she and Binny traveled extensively where he conducted his compositions, which were performed in symphony halls around the world. They spent four summers in Siena, Italy, affiliated with the music program at the University of Siena. Jane was a founding member of the board of Encore, an elder education program administered through Orange County Community College in Middletown. She was a long time member and board member of the Chester Historical Society, and the Friends of the Chester Public Library. She leaves two beloved children; her daughter Anne Cruz and husband Louis, of Gordonville, PA, and her son, Captain Mark Robinson and wife Jacklyn, of Gurnet, MA. She cherished her five grandchildren; Mindy and husband Donald Crawford, and daughter Sydney of East Quogue, NY; Tony and wife Mary Lea and sons Richard James "RJ", and Brendan of Cherry Hill, NJ; Lisa Lea and fianc Drew Miville, son Lane and fiance Crista, and their daughter Aurora, daughter Piper Jane of Green Lane, PA; Rebecca and wife Susan Featenby, and son Shane and daughter Catherine of Macungie, PA; Brett Robinson of Gurnet, MA. A visitation will be held Friday, December 21, 2018, during the hours of 3:00 PM to 4:00 PM, at Flynn Funeral & Cremation Memorial Centers, Inc., located 139 Stage Road, Monroe, NY, 10950. A Memorial Service will follow beginning at 4:00 PM. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Hospice of Orange and Sullivan Counties, Inc, located at 800 Stony Brook Court, Newburgh, New York, 12550.
