James Raymond Mowry passed away peacefully on Sunday, June 11, 2017, surrounded by family. He was 91 years of age. He is survived by his children, Cindy Mowry, Gina Mowry McHugh (Michael) Timothy Mowry (Beatrice), Christopher Mowry (Kerry) and Jill Barker, eight grandchildren, three great-grandchildren, his brother, Harold Mowry and sister, Patricia Ryle, several nieces and nephews. Jim was born and raised in the Binghamton, NY area. He attended Chenango Forks High School, graduating in 1944. He enlisted in the US Navy after high school and served on a USS ATR-39 as Petty Officer 3rd Class (radio operator) in the South Pacific. He was a veteran of World War II. After discharge from the Navy, Jim attended the Washington State University in Pullman, WA and Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute in Troy, NY, where he earned his bachelor's degree in architecture in 1952. He went on to have a very successful career as an architect winning numerous awards for his modern and innovative designs. Many of the buildings he designed are in the Binghamton, NY and surrounding areas, and throughout Southern Maryland. Jim's life celebration will be held at a future date in Binghamton, NY. His cremains will be interred in the Sylvan Lawn Cemetery, Greene, NY. In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorial contributions be made WSKG Public Radio/TV.
