James Fleming

d. July 17, 2022

James Fleming, 74, from Washingtonville passed away on Sunday July 17, 2022, at the Castle Point VA Medical Center in Wappingers Falls.
Jim was a military veteran having served with the United States Army during the Vietnam War.
Jim had retired from Pfizer, formerly Lederle Laboratories of the American Cyanimid Company, several years ago.
Jim was an avid creator which included building cars and engines as a hobby. He was known by many for his wild hot rod creations. As an expert machinist and perfectionist, he could physically create any idea or image from his own thoughts, by using his own hands and some tools. He had even built his own familys home. Jim had enjoyed racing whether it was across the Salt Flats or an air strip in Maine. He could be seen often hanging with his gang and brother-in-law, Bob, at Village Auto Works on 17M in Blooming Grove. Jim and his friends, especially John and Billy, could always be found in Jims garage, working on his newest idea.
Jims surviving family includes his wife Bernadette and his daughter Michele and her husband Rob Furbeck. Jims pride and joy was his granddaughter, Courtney. Jim had many relatives and friends. He will be greatly missed by all.
Our family would like to extend our thanks to the doctors who saw Jim regularly at Crystal Run, his friends and therapists in the Cardiac Rehab located at the Cornwall Campus of Montifiore/St. Lukes hospital, to the doctors and nurses who provided care to him at Westchester Medical Center over the last several weeks, to the amazing staff of doctors and nurses (especially his nurse Kris) at the Hudson Valley VA Medical Center at Castle Point who provided him with the care and dignity he so deserved in his last few days, and lastly and most importantly to our family and close friends who have been such a big part of his life, and who have provided unending love and support.
A Graveside Service will be held on Monday, July 25, 2022 at 11:00 AM at Orange County Veterans Cemetery located at 111 Craigville Road, Goshen, NY 10924.
If one should wish to, in lieu of flowers, donations in Jims memory may be made to the VA Hudson Valley Healthcare System and sent by mail to: VA Hudson Valley HCS, Attention Voluntary Services, 41 Castle Point Road, Wappingers Falls, NY 12590, or online at www.va.gov.
