Hubert "Hugh" Colangelo of Goshen, New York a former 43 year resident of Chester, New York died December 6, 2013 at St. Anthony's Hospital, Warwick, New York. He was 76 years of age. Hugh was born in Brooklyn, New York in 1936 to George and Nora Colangelo. He married Patricia Lynch on January 2, 1958 in Brooklyn, New York. He served his Country as a United State Marine, participating in the 1958 occupation of Beirut, Lebanon, which was called Operation Blue Bet. He was a driver for UPS for 25 years and was a very proud teamster and union organizer for Local 804, where he served as the Shop Stewart for many years. He was very proud of his defense of his fellow union members and the solidarity and strength of their strikes and job actions. Hugh always fought for the little guy, and was a natural protector. Hugh was an avid photographer and loved to be out taking pictures throughout the Hudson Valley area. His favorite subjects were around the Bear Mountain Bridge, the Black Dirt Region and of course he was the official photographer for his beloved children, grandchildren and great grandchildren. Hugh was a natural storyteller and loved to have family gathered around him as he told his tales, always making everyone laugh, many times at his own expense. A very well read and self educated man, he could speak on any subject and always enjoyed a fierce debate. Hugh took great pleasure in quietly helping those less fortunate that himself, usually people that were in trouble and in need of a friend, he always told them "Let's keeps this between us". He is survived by his daughter Cathleen Noguera and her husband Randy of Walden, NY, a son George Colangelo and his wife Julia Elizabeth of New Windsor, NY, a son John Colangelo and his wife Eva of Goshen, New York. His grandchildren Crystal Smith of Carmel, NY, Shawn Smith of Walden, NY, Guadalupe Colangelo, Cecilia and Marisela Colangelo of New Windsor, NY, Karlie and Mia Colangelo of Goshen, NY. Great Grandson Jayce Dangerfield of Carmel, NY, Nieces Maureen George and her husband Bill of Toms River, NJ, Dawn Norek of Keansburgh, NJ, his cousin Gloria La Morgese of Long Island, NY, along with his best friend of more then 40 years and fellow union activist Joe Gibbs of Beacon, NY. Hugh was predeceased by his beloved wife Patricia Colangelo, brother George Colangelo who died heroically in Korea, and his sister Rosalie and brother Patrick. Visitation will be held on Tuesday, December 10, 2013 during the hours of 4:00 to 7:00 PM at Flynn Funeral & Cremation Memorial Centers, Inc., 139 Stage Road, Monroe, NY 10950. A Memorial Mass will be held on Wednesday, December 11, 2013 at 11:00 AM at St. Columba R.C. Church, 29 High Street, Chester, New York 10918. Burial will follow with Military Honors at Chester Cemetery. Funeral and cremation services have been entrusted to Thomas F. Flynn and the staff of Flynn Funeral & Cremation Memorial Centers, 139 Stage Road, Monroe, New York 10950.
