Gerard T. Kick

Gerard T Kick (Pop Pop) of Monroe, NY, an Accountant for 44 years, passed away on December 31,2019 at Westchester Medical Center. He was 72 years old. The Son of Charles and Ottilia Kick, he was born in 1947. He was a member of Monroe-Chester Sportsmen Club, National Rifle Association, Sacred Heart Church, and an avid hunter, sportsman and outdoor enthusiast. He was also a former scoutmaster of Troop 240 in Monroe, New York. Jerry was an inspiration to so many, As a husband, father, grandfather, brother, uncle, scoutmaster, club member or friend. Supported by his wife Nancy, he was always willing to offer a helping hand, whether it meant volunteering for the Boy Scouts or just offering a sympathetic ear. His obvious desire to place the wellbeing of others above his own, combined with his quick sense of humor, led to many fast friends. His advice, whether solicited or not, was always from the heart and with the greatest intentions. If he met you, he cared about you, if he met you again you were family. Jerry was always the life of the party, ready with a joke or a funny story. Jerry was always able to see the best in people and he tried to bring out the best in everyone he encountered. Always ready to step up when no one else would led to Jerry having two very different responsibilities. When his oldest son joined the Boy Scouts, they needed a leader. Jerry reluctantly stepped up into a position he would learn to love and keep, even after his youngest aged out 12 years later. His impact on the youth in his community cannot be overstated. Till his dying day, they remember and admire him. A second responsibility that always seemed to fall to Jerry was that of performing the Eulogy when a loved one passed. His compassionate and caring attitude, as well as his sense of duty to others, led him to this sometimes-painful responsibility. He always delivered a heartfelt tribute to the deceased, resulting in those listening often requesting he perform their final service. Those who knew him believed the term "Jerry rigging" was derived from watching Pop Pop fix things. He believed everything could be fixed with a little ingenuity, and even more duct tape. An item any regular/rational person (his sons) would discard, he would reuse, repurpose, or recycle. Whether it be duct taped slippers, tying his dog to an old keg for exercise, or straightening out and reusing nails. Pop Pop loved to recycle. If his grandchildren threw a can in the garbage, he would dumpster dive to get it. He then would fine us a nickel, and believe me, he always got his nickel. Jerry knew what was important in life. He loved his wife Nancy, his family, the clearance rack at Kohl's, and a good walk in the woods. He lived to serve others and it brought him great joy and fulfillment. As his children got older and he moved into retirement, he was able to spend more time doing what he loved. He loved spoiling his beloved dogs. He loved spending time outdoors with his friends and family. Jerry loved mentoring his grandchildren and watching them grow. But above all, He could NOT have been MORE proud of his family, and his family of him. He is loved by many and will be missed by all. His memory will live for generations thorough the stories we tell, the pictures we've taken, and the beautiful people he has known and loved. Survivors include his wife Nancy Kick at home, his four brothers Frank Kick of Monroe, Charles and Maryellen Kick of Long Island, John and Sharon Kick of Monroe, and Raymond and Merry Stiklickas of Long Island. Best friend Patrick Heffernan of Monroe, as well as numerous cousins, nieces, nephews, godchildren, and friends who are like family. He is also survived by his children Gerard Kick and wife Jeanne of Mahopac, Christopher Kick and wife Kimberly of Seymour, CT, and Matthew Kick and wife Tara of Campbell Hall. Lastly, he is survived by his seven grandchildren Robert, Christopher, Olivia, Ryan, Kaitlyn, Charles, and Daniel. Visitation will be held during the hours of 5:00 to 9:00 PM on Friday, January 3, 2020 at Flynn Funeral & Cremation Memorial Centers, Inc., located at 139 Stage Road, Monroe, NY 10950. A second Visitation will be held from 10:00 AM to 12:00 PM on Saturday, January 4, 2020, at Flynn Funeral & Cremation Memorial Centers, Inc., located at 139 Stage Road, Monroe, NY, 10950. A Funeral Mass will be offered at 1:00 PM on Saturday, January 4, 2020, at Sacred Heart R.C. Church, located at 26 Still Road, Monroe, NY 10950. In lieu of flowers, the family request that donations be made in his name, to Sacred Heart R.C. Church located at 26 Still Road, Monroe, NY 10950, or to the Town of Monroe Dog Shelter, mailed to the Town of Monroe, 1465 Orange Turnpike, Lower Level, Monroe, NY 10950.
