George E. Grumbach, a 48-year resident of Chester, New York, died at home on May 30, 2017. He was 85 years of age. He was born in New York City in 1931, the Son of the late Philip and Charlotte Grumbach. George was a devoted husband and dedicated father, who served his country during the Korean Conflict in the United States Army, earning a Bronze Star. After his service in the Army, he went on to serve the residents of the City of New York, first as a Police Officer, and then as a Detective, for more than 20 years. Upon retiring from the New York City Police Department, he continued with his career working for the Phillip Morris Security Division for 15 years. He was an avid basketball and baseball fan - he loved the New York Yankees. He enjoyed crossword puzzles, playing Cribbage and board games, as well as tennis. George loved fishing the waters of Florida with his son, George. He was a Parishioner and an Usher at St. Columba R.C. Church in Chester, New York; and volunteered his time for several years for the St. Columba Bazaar. He was a member of the Chester Golden Age Club, and past member of the Knights of Columbus. Survivors include his wife, Margaret M. Grumbach; and their daughter, Margaret and her husband Charles Ziegler of Sparta, New Jersey. He is further survived by his granddaughter, Sarah Ziegler and her fiancAC. Marc Lajeunesse, of Virginia Beach, Virginia; his grandson, Charles Ziegler of Sunnyvale, California; his sister, Florence Dinger of Largo, Florida; his brother, Phil Grumbach and his companion, June Gaines of Lakeland, Florida; his brother-in-law, Michael Phillips of Chester, New York; his sister-in-law, Ann Phillips of Vero Beach, Florida; as well as several loving nieces and nephews. His son George, as well as his brothers-in-law Fred Dinger, and Thomas Phillips, predeceased George. Visitation will be held on Friday, June 2, 2017, during the hours of 3:00 to 5:00 PM and 7:00 to 9:00 PM, at Flynn Funeral & Cremation Memorial Centers, Inc., located at 139 Stage Road, Monroe, New York 10950. A Funeral Mass shall is scheduled for Saturday, June 3, 2017, at 10:00 AM at St. Columba R.C. Church, located at 29 High Street, Chester, New York 10918. Interment with full Military Honors will follow at St. Columba R.C. Church Cemetery, Chester, New York. Funeral arrangements are under the direction Thomas F.
