Frank L Gerow Sr.

New Hampton, NY

Frank L Gerow Sr., 90, of White Lake, passed away on March 5, 2025 surrounded by loved ones at Garnet Medical Center.

The son of Easter and Walter Gerow, Frank was born on February 9, 1935 in Monticello. 

Frank found hislifelong passion in bluegrass music at an early age. Whether strumming a guitar, picking a banjo, or singing heartfelt harmonies, Frank brought joy to many through the power of music.

Frank attended school at Monticello high school, and met his wife, Ruth E. Gerow, in 1967 and they were happily married for 42 years.

A devoted musician, he spent countless hours playing with the Back Porch Gang, performing at festivals, jam sessions, nursing homes, and gatherings of friends that celebrated the rich traditions of bluegrass country music. He was known for his natural musical talent, professionalism, as well as his ability to bring people together through song and stories.

Beyond music, Frank was a beloved spouse, parent, grandparent, and friend, remembered for his gentle nature who enjoyed small engine repair, playing card games, bowling, fishing, and photography. He was a former member of the Elks Lodge and was also a successful small businessman. His laughter, kindness, and unwavering love for music will be deeply missed by all who knew him.

Frank is survived by his sons Corey Gerow and his husband, Michael, of New Hampton; Kip Gerow of Monticello; daughters, Gail Denman of Liberty; Cindy Utter and her husband, Larry, of Greeley. He has 11 grandchildren, 13 great-grandchildren, 2 great-great-grandchildren, and many nieces and nephews. He is preceded in death by his wife, Ruth E Gerow; son, Frank Gerow Jr.; sister, Sylvia Mattison; sister, Thelma Stackow; brother, Harold Gerow; brother, Carl Gerow; brother, Walter Gerow; and brother, John Gerow.

No Services will be held. Friends and family are encouraged to reflect and cherish the many memories they had of him.

Donations may be made to a charity of choice.

May Frank’s love of music continue to echo in the songs we play and the hearts he touched!

Cremation care was provided under the immediate care of Brendan and Thomas Flynn at Oxford Hills Crematory, Chester, NY.

The family entrusted Frank's care to the Flynn Family and Flynn Funeral & Cremation Memorial Center staff.
