Edmund Janes Hawxhurst III, 87, a lifelong resident of the Monroe, NY area, passed away peacefully at the Jewish Home at Rockleigh, NJ, after a long battle with myasthenia gravis. Edmund was predeceased by his 1st wife of 25 years, Shirley Hausman Hawxhurst and his father Edmund Janes Jr. and mother Annie Adam Hawxhurst. Edmund is survived by his 2nd wife of 18 years, Barbara Caoili Hawxhurst; his son Edmund Hawxhurst and his wife Lynn of Stamford, CT; his son David Hawxhurst of Syracuse, NY; his daughter Carol Hawxhurst of Monroe, NY; his grandson Jack Hawxhurst (David's son) of Syracuse, NY; his 9 stepchildren and 32 step grandchildren. Ed, a lawyer, spent most of his career working for the New York State Court Appellate Division - Second Judicial Department representing mentally disabled persons under the care of New York State. He was a graduate of Columbia College and Brooklyn Law School. He was a U.S. Army Veteran, stationed in the country of Panama in the 1950's. Ed was a troop leader of the Boy Scouts, a long time board member and board president of the Monroe Free Library, a board member of the American Cancer Society, a Little League Baseball coach and an avid fan of Carol's softball league games. Ed loved to travel around the country, especially Florida. He took his young family on many adventures, hauling a trailer with an old Cadillac for a trip across the USA and many trips to visit Shirley's parents and aunts in Florida. He loved to fish, although he spent most of his time untangling and baiting his children's fishing lines. He continued his adventures with Barbara, visiting Cape Cod annually on their anniversary. Ed's burial was private at Washingtonville, NY Cemetery. Ed's Memorial Service is on Saturday July 20th beginning at 10:00 am at St. Paul's Episcopal Church, where Ed was baptized and attended for many years, located at 101 Main Street, Chester, NY. Ed's Memorial Service is open to the public to welcome all family and friends.
