November 19, 1933 February 3, 2023
Monroe, New York

Bernadette "Bernie" Dwyer left this world peacefully on February 3, 2023, at Schiever Pavilion in Warwick, NY. Daughter of the late Patrick and Ellen (Thornbury) Plunkett, she was born on November 19, 1933, in Dublin, Ireland.
"Behind all your stories is always your mothers story. Because hers is where yours begins."
Bernie emigrated to the Bronx in 1956. Shortly after, she met the love of her life and her husband of 54 years, Larry. Together they built their life, first on Davidson Avenue in the Bronx, then Greenwood Lake, and finally in Monroe. Bernie was a dedicated mother, first and foremost. She treasured her children but especially loved her role as a grandma. Her world revolved around her family: a caring, supportive, loving wife, mother, sister, grandmother, aunt, and friend. Bernie taught us all what is truly important: to love, support and care for each other. We are all better off for having known her. It was a great privilege to call her mom, grandma, sister, and friend.
Bernie meant the world to her family. She was our anchor. It brings a smile to her family, knowing she is reunited with Larry and her sisters enjoying a cup of tea, a cookie, and an occasional piece of chocolate.
Bernie is survived by her loving children: Brendan and his wife, Karen; Susan Johnson and her husband, Damien; grandchildren: Katie and her husband Dan, Jack, Lauren, Annie, Andrew, and Daniel, siblings: Brendan Plunkett and his wife Carol of Nyack, NY; Patrick Plunkett of Dublin, Ireland; Jerry Plunkett and his wife Doreen of Lake St. Catherine, VT and her sister-in-law Rita Saullo of Greenwood Lake. In addition to her parents, Bernie was predeceased by her beloved husband, Lawrence Dwyer; her sisters: Marie Hegarty, Olive ORourke, and Rita Carr; her brothers: Eamonn Plunkett and James Plunkett. Bernie is also survived by many nieces, nephews, great-nieces, and nephews, all of whom she loved dearly.
