Antonia Nigro (nee) Spanti, a long time resident of Monroe, New York died on Sunday, May 1, 2016 at Vassar Brothers Medical Center in Poughkeepsie, New York. She was 86 years of age. A loving wife, mother, grandmother and dedicated homemaker, Antonia was born to Antonio Spanti and Maria Pellicano in Cataforio, Reggio Calabria, Italy in the year 1929. Her home was an open door and she had many interests and passions; she was ahead of her time. She came to the USA aboard the SS Rex in December of 1935 through Ellis Island and was an area resident for 58 years. Her greatest passion was family, including those in her homeland and Canada. The strong bonds were passed down and maintained by her grandchildren, which brought her great solace and joy. She is missed by so many and will always be in our hearts. Antonia is predeceased by her brothers, Domenic Spanti and Gregory Spanti and by her daughter, Diana Nigro Austin. Antonia leaves behind her husband of 63 years, Donato Nigro at home and their children: Daniel Nigro of New York City; Patricia Nigro of Saugerties, New York and Debra Nigro and her husband, William McKenney of Highland Mills, New York. Her brother Vincent Spanti and his wife, Luba of Cape Coral, Florida; her sisters-in-law, Rosemarie Spanti of Montgomery, New York; Doris Yozzo of Middletown, New York and Anna Westfall of Winder, Georgia also survive her. She also leaves behind her grandchildren, Ryan; Michael and Peter Austin; Katelyn McKenney; Connor, Ian and Fiona Milton as well as several nieces and nephews: Robert Spanti; Lee Westfall; Craig Westfall and Linda Philpatrick. A private family viewing has been scheduled. There will be no public visitation. A memorial service is being planned by her family and will be announced at a later date. A Mass of Christian Burial will be Celebrated on Saturday, May 7, 2016 at 10 AM at Sacred Heart Chapel located at 151 Stage Road, Monroe, New York 10950. Cremation will follow at Oxford Hills Crematory, Inc., Chester, New York. Funeral arrangements and the cremation service have been entrusted to Thomas F.
