Adelbert "Del" S. Rice, 96 years of age and a resident of the area for more than thirty years, passed away on September 12, 2017, at home while under the care of his loving family and Hospice. Del was a World War II Veteran, and employed by St. Regis Paper Company for over forty years, retiring as a Regional Safety Manager. The son of the late Adelbert E. and Lucy Rice, Del was born in January 1921 in West Carthage, New York. He was predeceased by his wife, Priscilla "Peg" Rice. Del was a kind, humble man who enjoyed spending time with beloved family. His hobbies included golfing, woodworking, bowling, genealogy, music, movies, and traveling. He was respected by all who knew him and touched so many lives. He was truly our "hero" and the "wind beneath our wings". He was a lifetime member of Elks Lodge #1762 and The American Legion Post #789, the Firemen's Association of the State of NY, Winthrop Society, as well as several other organizations. Survivors include his daughters: Dorothy "Dot" Davis of Bradenton, FL and Christine Harriett of Washingtonville, NY; his five grandchildren: Lynn and husband Artie Jefferies, Lee Davis and fianc Patty, Sharon and husband John Mabee, Susan and husband Stephen Elter, Pete and wife Amanda Davis; ten great-grandchildren: A.J. and Allison Jefferies, Codie, Jacob and Macie Davis, John, Gary and Danielle "Dani" Mabee, Stephanie and Christopher Elter, and Jordyn Davis; as well as several nieces and nephews. Del was predeceased by his ten brothers and sisters; as well as his son-in-law, Gary L. Harriett. Visitation will be on Saturday, September 16, 2017, during the hours of 4:00 to 8:00 PM at Flynn Funeral & Cremation Memorial Centers, Inc., located at 139 Stage Road, Monroe, New York 10950. Military Honors will take place during the wake service. Graveside services will be conducted on Saturday, September 23, 2017, in the family plot at the Hamptonburgh Cemetery located at the intersection of Sarah Wells Trail and County Route 51.
