John Jack Courtenay of Middletown, New York a Police Officer for the Village of Chester, New York Police Department for 20 plus years, died on July 18, 2018, at his residence after a lengthy illness. Jack was 47 years of age. The son of the late Lt. Robert and Margaret Courtenay, he was born in Warwick, New York, on July 16, 1971. Jack was raised in Chester, New York, growing up in Surrey Meadows, where he made a lifetime of memories. After graduating high school and working at a local distributor, Jack found his true calling, following in his grandfather and father's footstep of civil service, "To Protect and Serve". In 2001, he transferred to the Village of Chester Police Department, where he retired after 20 years of service. He was a member of the Chester Volunteer Fire Department, Walton Engine and Hose Company. He also served as President of the Fire Company. Jack was an amazing father to his 3 daughters and was a wonderful husband. He was a hard worker. He had the kindest of hearts, and an uncanny ability to give advice to others as they proceeded on their own path of life. Even though his illness to his health, it didn't take his sense of humor or his love of his family and friends. Although he moved to Middletown, NY in 2004, Jack continued to stay fully devoted to the Chester Community, his life, his roots. The Police and Fire Departments families have always been an important part of his life and will be as important in his death, … to him, his wife and daughters.
