Angelo Rogic

September 15, 1947 — July 7, 2022

Angelo Rogić was born on September 15th, 1947 on the island of Olib in Croatia and he spent his childhood there. He was the fourth child of Ivanica and Mate Rogić (the town baker for many years). He grew up alongside his older siblings Zdenka, Elza and Čedo and younger brother Emil.
As a young man, Angelo moved to Rijeka to attend culinary school. After graduating, he worked as a cook on a cargo ship which allowed him to visit and explore various countries. His career was put on hold when he was drafted to the army. His eighteen months in the service included two very harsh winters. During his time in the army, he met and fell in love with Mira Andrin, who also grew up in his hometown of Olib.
Angelo and Mira got engaged in Olib and soon made plans to move to New York. In May of 1971, Mira, her parents and younger brother arrived in New York, with Angelo and Mira's older brother following in November of the same year. Angelo and Mira got married in 1972 and in September of 1973 welcome their daughter, Sandra.
Angelo worked at a textile factory when he first arrived in New York. After several years, he accepted a job as a cook for the Bull & Bear Restaurant in the Waldorf Astoria Hotel in New York City where he worked until his retirement.
Angelo enjoyed the outdoors, walking, fishing, spending summers in Croatia, but most of all he enjoyed time with his family, especially his granddaughters, who were the light of his life.
Angelo passed away on July 7th, 2022 in Flushing, New York, at the age of 74, following a brief and courageous battle with cancer. He is survived by Mira, his wife of fifty years, his daughter, Sandra, his son-in-law Ed, his granddaughters, Christina and Daniela, his sisters Zdenka and Elza, his brother Emil, his sisters-in-law Radojka and Tereza and many neices and nephews. He was loved by all and will be missed tremendously.
