Biography

On Tuesday, July 6th, in the arms of his loved ones, Gerald V. Conlon age 70, died peacefully at home after a courageous battle with cancer.  He was born on September 6, 1939 in the Bronx to the late John and Delia Laffey Conlon.

Gerald married Eileen Smith on August 14, 1965; they spent many years happily devoted to each other, their children and grandchildren. In more recent years, they enjoyed traveling together until Eileen's passing last June.

Gerald served 2 years in the U.S.  Army.  Later he retired after 20 years of service on the New York City Fire Department.  Gerald returned to school and graduated with his Registered Nurse Degree from Orange County Community College.  He was a Registered Nurse at the V.A. Medical Center in Montrose, NY.

Gerald's informative historical knowledge, love of fishing, and card playing will be missed by all that knew him.  He is survived by his three sons Gerald and his wife Theresa of Florida, NY, Thomas of Middletown, NY and Brian and his wife Shelia of Highland Mills, NY.  His five loving and adoring grandchildren, Brian, Mairead, Rose, Maeve and Kathleen also survive him, along with his brother Joseph Conlon of Yonkers, NY and his sister in law Elizabeth Conlon of Westchester, New York as well as numerous nieces and nephews.

He was pre-deceased by his beloved wife Eileen (Nee: Smith) Conlon, brothers John and Edward Conlon and sister Theresa Tretter.

Visitation will be held on Friday, July 9th, 2010 during the hours of 2:00 PM to 4:00 PM and 6:00 PM to 9:00 PM at Flynn Funeral & Cremation Memorial Centers, 139 Stage Road, Monroe, New York 10950

A Funeral Mass will be offered on Saturday, July 10, 2010 at 9:00 AM at St. Columba R.C. Church, 29 High Street, Chester, New York 10918.

Burial will follow at St. Joseph's R.C. Church Parish Cemetery 717 Union Corners Road, Florida, New York 10921.

In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to the Garden of Child, Inc., P.O. Box 658, Monroe, New York 10949 – Attention: Sister Anna Roche.
