Biography

Raymond R. Papaleo of Graniteville, New York an Office Clerk for Local 348 of the United Food and Commercial Workers, died on February 13, 2010 at Staten Island University Hospital.  He was 24 years old.

 

The son of Raymond and Cindy Papaleo, he was born on January 8, 1986 in Brooklyn, New York

 

His father recalled Raymond is the following manner "He was very outgoing, and had tons of friends."  He surrounded himself with plenty of friends and spent his free time playing hockey, his favorite sport, followed by softball.

 

A surfing accident off the shores of Maryland in July of 2007 changed all that and more than two and half years after the accident that left him paralyzed, he died from pneumonia at Staten Island University Hospital.

 

Raymond is survived by his parents, Raymond and Cindy Papaleo of Staten Island, NY, his sister, Michele Papaleo of Staten Island, NY, his paternal grandmother Rose Papaleo of Freehold, NJ, and his maternal grandfather, Robert Martell and step grandmother Patricia Martell of Monroe, NY. 

 

Also surviving Raymond are his aunts and uncles; Ralph Papaleo and his wife Teresa of Manalapan, NJ, Renee Casale and her husband David of Marlboro, NJ, Donna Cush and her husband Edward of Brooklyn, NY, Marianne Runfola and her husband Peter of Staten Island, NY.  He is also survived by many cousins.

 

Services were held at the Matthew's Funeral Home, Willowbrook, New York followed by a Mass of Christian Burial on Wednesday, February 17 at 10:30 AM. at Our Lady of Pity R. C. Church, Bulls Head. 

 

Burial followed in Resurrection Cemetery, Pleasant Plains.
