I went to work for Mr. Buschmann in the summer of 1974 when I was 16. He was the the first boss I ever had, lucky for me. He taught me a lot of things, some of which I understood right away and some of which took a while to sink in. Things like the value of a good coffee break when applied regularly but not allowed to last too long. Things like when it's fifteen degrees out and howling wind and you are working putting a dormer on the roof of a house, it might be a good idea to have a little shot of schnapps in your tea and a sandwich made with outrageously good wurst from the German butcher store to warm you up. Things like, if you blunted the tip of a nail with your hammer it would be LESS likely to split the piece of wood you were nailing. Things like the sublime beauty of a correctly sharpened wood chisel. And even things about personal safety on the jobsite, like not trying to arm wrestle Heinz Hoefs. As the years went on and I progressed to other jobs, other bosses, and other places, I started to understand some of the other things Mr. Buschmann had been teaching me that I didn't get right away. Bigger things. Things like the value of hard work, a strong family, sticking by your friends, wisdom earned through experience, personal integrity, and a good name. Thank you, Mr. Buschmann for all the things you've taught us. Yours was a life well lived. If we can live ours half as well as you did we should consider ourselves very lucky.

Everyone in Chester and the surrounding areas knew Mr. Buschmann to be a hard worker and talented craftsman. He and Mrs. Buschmann brought into this world devoted children who gave him much happiness throughout his lifetime. Although he will surely be missed, it's time now for him to be with his beloved daughter, Birgitta and beloved son, Franz.

Paul has described best the things most of us loved about Bernard Buschmann. His humbleness has been an example and goal for so many of us in our own lives. All throughout my life I felt honored to know and call him Uncle Bernard. All who met him enjoyed his presence and respected him greatly. Many of my richest childhood memories include Bernard and Gertrude because they both have been so helpful and giving. For that reason he will always live in our hearts and minds but more importantly he now lives forever with God. May he know how much he is loved and watch and guide all of his loved ones from above. Thanks be to God for him and he will be greatly missed.

PaPa was so strong in mind and body. PaPa raised an awesome family and had many great accomplishments. I wish we could all be like him! We will miss him but know he is with God and his children.
