Biography
Bernhard R. Buschmann died peacefully in his home on Tuesday, December 29, 2009 with Gertrud, his wife of 66 years, at his side. Mr. Buschmann was born in Hannover, Germany, the seventh child of Johannes and Anna Buschmann. He immigrated to America with his family in 1950 and lived in Chester for 59 years. Bernhard was a cabinet maker by trade and worked as an independent contractor building many custom houses in Orange County. He was a congregant of St. Columba’s Parish in Chester. Bernhard was a loving husband and father, devoted to his family. In addition to his wife, he is survived by daughters, Marianne, Cambridge, MA and Regina (Bertram Beebe) of Hudson, NY; daughter-in-law, Dale of North Palm Beach, FL; and son-in-law, Werner (Deborah) Schwarzenbach. He was pre-deceased by his son, Franz J. Buschmann and daughter, Birgitta Schwazenbach. He also has five grandchildren, Susan (Thomas) McDonnell, Brian (Claudia) Buschmann, Michael and Emily Schwarzenbach, and Jacob Beebe and five great grandchildren, Ryan, Riley, Leah McDonnell and Amanda and Kevin Buschmann. His family gratefully thanks Dr. Anthony Martini and the caregivers from Hospice of Orange and Sullivan County for the excellent care given to him. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to St. Columba Church or Hospice of Orange County.
Visitation will be held on Saturday, January 2, 2010 during the hours of 10:00 AM to 1:00 PM at Flynn Funeral & Cremation Memorial Centers, 3 Hudson Street, Chester, New York 10918. A Funeral Mass will follow at 2:00 PM at St. Columba R.C. Church, 29 High Street, Chester, New York 10918, with Fr. John S. Bonicci officiating. Burial will follow at St. Columba R.C. Church Parish Cemetery, Route 94, Chester, New York.
